Rules of the Watershed.

The watershed or safe harbor is used for the time period in television schedules during which 'adult content' can be shown. Adult content is usually defined as images or language depicting or referring to explicit sexual intercourse, graphic violence, or drug use and the use of strong language.

According to Ofcom, the watershed on standard television in the UK starts at 9:00 p.m., and finishes at 5:30 a.m. the next morning. Programmes that are 15+ are shown during this period. However, some 12+ shows can be shown before 9:00 p.m., such as The Simpsons and Doctor Who. However, 12, 15 and 18 rated films can be shown on PIN protected channels at any time of the day. There should be a gentle transition to adult material, and 18-rated material is not allowed to be shown before 9:00 p.m.

Catagories of Certificates

It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a 'U' film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. 'U' films should be set whithin a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.

General viewing, but some scenes may be un-suitable for young children. Unaccompanied children of any age may watch. A 'PG' film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.

Suitable for 12 years and over.Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.
The ‘12A’ category exists only for cinema films. No one younger than 12 may see a ‘12A’ film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult, and films classified ‘12A’ are not recommended for a child below 12. An adult may take a younger child if, in their judgement, the film is suitable for that particular child. In such circumstances, responsibility for allowing a child under 12 to view lies with the accompanying adult. The ‘12’ category exists only for video works. No one younger than 12 may rent or buy a ‘12’ rated video work.

Suitable only for 15 years and overNo-one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.

Suitable only for adultsNo-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video work.

To be shown only in specially licensed cinemas, or supplied only in licensed sex shops, and to adults of not less than 18 years. The ‘R18’ category is a special and legally restricted classification primarily for explicit works of consenting sex or strong fetish material involving adults. Films may only be shown to adults in specially licensed cinemas, and video works may be supplied to adults only in licensed sex shops. ‘R18’ videos may not be supplied by mail order.

Title Sequence (30 Days Of Night)

This is the title sequence for the film 30 Days Of Night, it presents an eerie, scary atmosphere, the titles fade in and out and when they appear they are distorted and dont cohere with each other but then they straighten out and are readable, also the music gives this title sequence a scary, edge of seat feel. The pictures in the background are all distorted but dont show much about the film.

FlashBack Scene

This is a Flashback scene from the TV series Lost. We dont realise at first whether it is a Flashback or not. When the action begins the music gets louder and builds up suspense until it cuts to a more calmer scene and the music and Aeroplane noises stop. We then realise that it has been a flashback from the characters prospective.

In our 5 minute film we will be using a series of flashbacks, we originally got this idea from Lost as we are big fans. In Lost the flashback comes first and then cuts to the present time. We want to have the present time first and then cut to the flashback's.

Re-shoot and change of script ( Diary)

We was to begin with going to shoot the last scenes of our film where the main character changes and attacks the female character in an alley behind an old house not far from our college. Once we filmed these scenes we watched them and decided that we didnt like the camera angles, location (Because of the obscene graffiti written on the walls) and the way the script was ordered. After much consideration I decided to re-organise the shot list and the script for this last part of the movie. We decided to film at a different location and use more varied camera angles such as, first person shots and long shots and add more of a cliffhanger at the end.
We then posted our film on Youtube and some people commented positively on the first person shots and the location. I am glad we chose to re-shoot this ending as it has turned out just the way I imagined and it has made the film more exciting and watchable.

My Make Up Movie

location Shots

These are the first location shots
of the park where we first meet the characters.

This is the location shot for the scene where jasper gets bitten.
this is my poster design it is based on the twilight saga poster on the mystery feel

My Poster design

This is my rough poster design. The poster has been made from photos we took during filming so the character looks the same but the image is better quality the it would be if a frame from the film was used. I made the poster in Photoshop Elements 8 because of its wide variety of tool. I used a red a black colour scheme to give it a dark feeling and to mach the style of other vampire film posters. The poster has also been kept simple and straight to the point so it isn't overwhelming however this has made it look more like a teaser poster then the actual film poster.

Thomas Second poster idea

i prefer this poster idea to my first one.
The wall photo was a stock image from www.gettyimages.com.
I think this poster is effective and might make people want to see the film.

Character design and costume

This is the costume design for the character Marq. He is one of the bad vampires that restrains the main character to allow the other vampire to bite him. This character wears dark clothes as he is quite mysterious and evil. I pictured him with a knife to show how brutal and ruthless he is.

Thomas' Poster ideas

A simple poster idea, the tower in the background shows one of the main settigns of the film, and the Lead actress at the front shows that the film is about her. The font is red to symbolise blood and vampires.

Trial Poster

This is the final image I have made for my poster, I started to improve on it by putting the characters name's below the main title. On the tag line I added a glow to make it stand out more and give it a more interesting look. I also added a blood splatter to show that this move does contain blood. I also added a 15 Certificate

This is my poster that I made for our short film The Love Of Blood. I made the background and the character's black and white to show the darkness of the film, I also chose black and white to empthasis the eye colours of each character. The titles 'Love of Blood' are in red to stand out from the background and catch the readers eye, which also give it a Horror genre sense. The background is of a derelict house and an old tree I wanted this as it is simple and gives it a spooky atmosphere.
I chose these pictures of the characters as they dont give away any emotion and the reader maybe left wondering who they are and what lead they have in the film. The male character has a red eye showing evil, the female character has a blue eye showing good, however i chose to use the tag line 'He had a secret...But, so did she...' to throw the audience off course to show that maybe he isnt that evil and she's the evil one, it is also used as an exclamative as to what secrets the characters might have.
